Lost in Translation

Life is Worth Living

You know what your problem is? You've got no whimsy. Zero. You've optimized it right out of your system.

Somewhere between your third productivity podcast and your fifth morning routine iteration, you’ve removed life.

I just saw a tweet, some guy who literally wrote a doc about what he wants in a partner and the exact plan he wants them to follow to have a family. Actual document. With sections.

These people are anti-human. Anti-life. I'm not being mean, they truly disgust me. Everything about the way they live is dehumanizing. Nothing irks me more than the obsessive systematization of existence.

Everything's become a checklist. You can't just feel feelings, you need to map them onto a mood tracker. You can't just be hungry and eat something, you need make sure it’s aligned with the latest health trend.

Spiritually downtrodden people really love this kind of stuff. That if they just do xyz they’ll finally be the person they want to be.

How about this: you could just not do any of this. You could wake up tomorrow and just see what happens. You could let Monday be Monday instead of treating it like it's a level you need to beat. You could run into someone and become friends because you both think the same things are funny, not because they meet some arbitrary checklist.

The bad stuff is coming anyway. You know this, right? You can take your twenty supplements and write in your little gratitude journal and optimize your life and track your water intake and colour-code your entire existence, and life is still going to throw you off a ledge sometimes. That's just the deal. That's what you signed up for when you were born. The fact that you can't control everything is actually the only thing that makes any of this interesting.

You've got people out here acting like life is a problem to be solved. Like if they just find the right combination, they'll finally feel okay. They're training for a game they're not playing.

Put down all the bullshit. Put down all the ideas that aren’t yours.

Let the wind take you places. I know that sounds cliche, but I mean it. You can just go where life takes you. You can just respond to what shows up. You can just be a person moving through the world without turning it into a goal that needs to be met.

Life is easy. It’s really not that complicated. You've just made it complicated because somewhere along the way someone told you that complicated means important. It doesn't.

So maybe just chill the fuck out.
